Lost Pet in Pakistan? What to Do in the First 24 Hours
The first few hours matter most. A clear, step-by-step plan for finding a lost cat or dog in Pakistan, plus the scams to watch out for.

Quick answer: Start searching right away, close to home. Most lost cats hide within a few houses, and dogs are often seen by neighbours. Tell guards and shopkeepers, post a clear photo in local WhatsApp and Facebook groups, call nearby vets, and never pay a "finder" before you see your pet.
The panic is real. Take a breath. A calm, organised search finds far more pets than a frantic one.
Hour 1: search close to home
- Cats usually hide nearby: under cars, in stairwells, on rooftops, behind water tanks and in neighbours' gardens.
- Dogs travel further, but someone has usually seen them. Ask everyone you pass.
- Call softly and shake a treat packet. A scared pet often won't come to shouting.
- Search again at dawn and late evening, when streets are quiet and pets come out of hiding.
Hours 1 to 3: put the word out
- Tell your chowkidar, building guards, neighbours, shopkeepers and delivery riders. They see everything on your street.
- Post in local WhatsApp and Facebook groups for your area. Include one clear photo, your area name, and your number.
- Call nearby vets and animal rescues. People often take a found pet there.
Hours 3 to 24: widen the search
- Put up posters with a large photo and your number near where your pet went missing.
- Leave something that smells of you, like a worn shirt, outside your door.
- Keep your phone on and charged. Pick up unknown numbers.
Watch out for scams
Sadly, some people pretend to have your pet to get money.
- Never pay before you see your pet. Ask for a video call.
- Meet in a public place, and take someone with you.
If your pet wears a Tailswatch tag
Make sure your plan is active and your phone is on. When someone scans the tag, they can WhatsApp you in one tap, and if they share their location you get an email showing where your pet was found.
